DLC: I'd like to introduce to everyone Karen Sala author of The Art of Finding Yourself At Any Age& Relationship Purgatory for Two. Welcome Karen to A Christian Man's Perspective. You've been busy lately it looks like. Your book The Art of Finding Yourself At Any Age has recently been featured in local newspapers (http://www.simcoe.com/community/barrieinnisfil/article/844465), on the site Mind Bender (http://www.ronniemassey.com/2/post/2011/06/21-questions-with-karen-sala-author-of-relationship-purgatory-for-two.html) and on the Scott Thompson Show. But none compare to my blog...hehehe. Please tell us about yourself.

Karen: Born in Toronto, Ontario Canada, currently, residing in Barrie Ontario. I have four adult children, three boys and one daughter. The boys are all artists, and all studied in art. All provide their art work in many forms of media. Example, websites, Cd Covers, Book Covers, Products ( Branding), Illustrations, and Digital Media, etc. Two also Paint. My daughter studied first in Advertising, and then in Policing, and is interested in furthering her studies in the Police area. All of my children have been involved in the Entertainment Industry which started when eldest son was six months old.

DLC: All your children... wow! I checked out your website and it looks like you do a lot of work with actors. Tell us a bit about that.

Karen: I personally was a principal level agent in the Film & Television Industry. This means, I aided those in search of successful acting careers in obtaining auditions, for speaking roles that also included lead roles in Television & Movies. In addition, my Talent & Models, did Print, Music Videos, Radio Announcers, Voice Overs which include Animation Series or Movies to name some of the areas of my submissions.

DLC: That's too cool! Having come from acting when I was younger I can appreciate how difficult that industry is. So when did you get a passion for writing?

Karen: As for writing it started around the age of 3 years old, or so, while I was attempting to memorize scripts, moments, all instructed by my father. He had me pretend to write as a child to aid in story telling while understanding how movies scripts are made developed and written. It aids in memory expansion also, but as a child, I had no knowledge that it could actually increase memory recall. But once you can take something memory, through moments, you can recall it. Needless to say it aids with focus, and attention spans.

DLC: So you started writing as a memorization skill. I've heard of many people who do that. Unfortunately I'm not one of them but maybe I need to start. lol What led you to get involved with TV.

Karen: What I can recall, as a kid, I couldn’t understand how the people arrived in the television set, and I couldn’t see the camera and that pretty much drove my father’s interest to explain it to me, the best he could.

From there, he explained how the actors worked off of scripts, and had me memorize lines, off of movies. I started emulating voices, moves, and actions from the actors. He had friends and family in the industry, and that just took a course of life on its own for me. But more so, it was something that he and I shared together. He passed when I was young and this memory, and our moments, become my drive for knowledge of that industry. This further enhanced my knowledge to see people through their actions, voices, facial movements, etc.

Then once I figured out how to actually write, I stated journaling around the the age of 12 years old. By the time I was 16, I entered a writing class in High School and wrote my first sales script at the age of about 16 years old for the Toronto Star, newspaper in their sales department.

I was asked if I wanted to produce a book about the age of 12 years old. But my desire was in my knowledge of the industry and my passion for singing, and being expressive that way whether through, art such as drawing, or painting. I was action orientated, and still I am that way so to actually take the time to write long term, on a daily basis, without being paid. Is not results driven for me. Who would have thought this many years later; I produced two books for public read. But they’re there. I guess you can say, I write in passion. It’s whatever passion we are in the moment of writing.

DLC: I love a person who is passionate about what they do. Don't ever let it die. Would you be willing to share about one of your books with us?

Karen: "Relationship Purgatory, for Two" is an interactive book that really aids the reader beyond what is typically known with understanding the dynamics in Relationships. If you do know, you may have studied or researched how human beings can be conditioned, on many levels. This can occur through environments, education, and of course comprehension of their own relationships and knowledge of self.

What can be noted as obvious, is that as human's being, we sometimes see our own hurt, frustration and disappointment, and associate it with other people causing' or 'emitting' those feelings to be personally attached within us.

This is where you find people shifting or acknowledging blame onto others for making them feel a certain way. But who put those thoughts, and feelings there? At anytime one should have a choice to accept or move on from feeling that way, and most people do. Each time you accept thou, you change the realities of what is, not necessarily change the reality of the situation that caused those feelings to begin with. So it becomes a distant emotional relationship at some level with self.

You see that questioning may never go away, it can stew in the mind as not dealt with. Why? You have to deal with it to become emotionally aware in order to move beyond that state of understanding and growth.

What most people would typically note is; People are constantly asking other people about what could or maybe happening in the minds of people they're associated 'closely' with. Maybe one could question, what a person is thinking? Why are they acting a certain way? What happened with them? How did it happen? Why is it happening?

But what they could be missing is they haven't communicated on a deeper emotional level or connected with the person they are questioning. What is obvious is that something created a distant with that relationship. Whether that relationship is siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, or even parents, something is going on. Whether directly, or indirectly a questionable feeling is attached to the person doing the questioning. This is what sends a person, searching for answers.

One can find themselves in a relationship with someone they just don't know. Eventually that questioning of another person's being reflects emotionally on the individuals doing that questioning. What a person may have done is trained their own mind to start accepting specific questionable aspects to limit that questioning within them. Why do they do that? Lingering questions, and emotions, can for a fact cause mental chaos for their own wellbeing. This patterning moves beyond the questionable relationship and goes back to the relationship with self. It’s there where most people escape to find peace in their being. This is also where things can fall to pieces because they miss or loss the connection, with the relationship and a distant self.

In actuality a person could be creating a “Compliant relationship with self." Not dealing with the situation.

"Relationship Purgatory, for Two" will help those in Relationships, help themselves. Afterall, the answers and peace are usually found, in self.

DLC: I know people in my own family who deal with much of what you've mentioned in your book. So often we find ways to move on in our lives without actually dealing with the root cause of our pain. Your book sounds fascinating so what finally led you to publish your writing?

Karen: I wrote for myself and family not for others. I didn't know that I would write for others until my son suggested I do, and I promised to well over 10 years ago.

DLC: Well we're glad you did. You've had a lot of experience not only in the entertainment business but with writing in general. What advice would you give to other authors or aspiring authors?

Karen: Each one of us comes from different knowledge, imagination, and life lessons. Share and don't worry what others think. Every job, business, life experience leads to some form of growth the longer you do it. Without doing it, we can't grow and learn.

DLC: Nice! I love the way you bring into focus the big picture. What was your greatest challenge personally when writing your current story?

Karen: Health issues of my co-author.

DLC: That would definitely be a challenge. I'm dealing with many health issues myself so I can appreciate the struggle. What factors do you use that tell you the manuscript is done?

Karen: As most artists will say, it's never done, we all just stop and accept it for what it is. It can always be improved on. And well that is the wonderful thing about life. Those that can see another avenue for it can make it even better. Good knowledge, good art, is expandable through and by, someone else's vision and knowledge.

DLC: That is so very true which is why God created Editors. LOL =) So why did you choose to write self help books?

Karen: I read a book how to write and publish in 90 days, and that is where my knowledge took me and strangely enough, it was more than likely at the time stewing in me to get it done, because of a promise I made to my son. That is where, two books were born. "The Art of Finding Yourself, At Any Age" & “Relationship Purgatory, for Two." Did it happen? "Yes. Was it the best? It can always be better.

DLC: There is a difference between being the best a piece of work can be and being ready for publication. Like you said, a piece of art can always be improved upon. Do you have any favorite authors?

Karen: Gosh this is always a tough question. In reality we have many excellent writers out there. Each one offers so much. It can be the mood when reading; whatever escape one could be looking for there is an author who can take us there. They can expand, enlighten, scare us, and stimulate us, all truly amazing Authors. There is no shortage of good writers, including, Self-Published Authors who are, notable in the book publishing industry.

For films I like Nancy Meyers, I think she got it! For Books Harold Robbins, Sharon Sala, Donald Trump, Joe Vitale, Deepak Chopra, Danielle Steel, Margret Atwood, Jeannie Walker, to name a few.

DLC: I truly love Nancy Meyers work too. Many people don't know this about me but I often like a good chick-flick. I loved the remake of Father of the Bride and my all time favorite Private Benjamin. Classic! Are you working on a book now and if so tell us a little bit about it?

Karen: Yes, "The Gasping" It's a murder mystery non fiction, being co-authored with a friend of mine. Second book in the works, my knowledge and relationship with one actor.

DLC: Looking forward to them. Now for a fun question. If you were stranded on a deserted island and could pick only 2 books to have with you, what would they be and why?

Karen: When I answer this question, I limit other authors, but, my heart and soul is with my daughter's book of poems because I would be alone, and would need a piece of her there with me and look to her words, for inspiration, understanding and drive. Second book, my son's published poem.

DLC: Awe! A true mom's answer. =) Karen, I want to thank you so very much for taking the time to share your heart today. You've been great. I pray you great success with both your books and your agency.
